Originally this site housed two separate cottages. The owners wanted to retain the period style of the front part of the original home and then move completely away from that style with a contempory, clean and functional extension comprising a new kitchen, dining and living areas, along with a new laundry and main bathroom. The owners played a big part in the design process as they knew what they were looking for and we ably assisted in bringing the design together, along with material selections, inside a budget for what is now a well resolved home that works beautifully and is respectful to its traditional past.
This was a typical period home in Port Melbourne (over 100 years old) that like many of its era was old and tired. Whilst some of the original charm of the front three rooms remained, it was time to start again beyond there. A new roof, front veranda, ensuite, plastering, flooring and services were required to the front section. The rear of the home was removed and replaced with a new modern kitchen, meals, family area along with a new bathroom, laundry and back veranda. The whole house has effectively been transformed from an ageing, dark, rundown, sad place to a light, bright, fresh and functional family home.
